Renamer INIT is a simple INIT file that should, when run, automatically rename the boot disk. It may help you if (a) people are always renaming your boot disk, and (b) you are running a utility, like Suitcase II, that uses disk names to work its magic.
To run Renamer you need to do two things: set the name you want it to use, and install it in your system folder (like any other INIT).
To set the name, HOLD DOWN THE OPTION AND COMMAND KEYS and double-click Renamer INIT. This should run a small application with a dialog from which you can choose the name you want your boot disk to have. Type in the name (do NOT include a colon at the end) and click “Okay.” That should set the name; you can reset it at any time by the same procedure.
To run Renamer, you need to drag it into your System Folder and reboot. If you are also running an INIT runner, such as INITPicker, you may have to configure the INIT runner so that Renamer is one of the INITs that is run.
Renamer does not display an icon on startup (sorry, it’s a quick and dirty job). I’ve tested it somewhat on my own Mac II, and it seems to work fine, but I haven’t sent it out for testing by anyone else. Use it at your own risk.
